Data Security and Computer Disposal

Data security and computer disposal or resale

When older devices are being retired by your department, securing and removing data safely is a priority for the university.

Before disposing, redistributing, or selling computer equipment, all data must be removed from the storage device.

Preparing equipment for transfer

Before transferring equipment to us for resale or disposal, the hard drive must be wiped clean. Learn more about secure data removal.

Any devices used to store patient data, social security numbers, or other sensitive data, should have the hard drive removed before transfer to us.

Remember to remove passwords from the BIOS and personal account information on Apple products. It is your responsibility to securely store the device(s) until we pick them up or you deliver them to us.
